Hire a Van Gogh to paint your house

Most people haven’t a clue   as to what different paints will affect  their  walls…they’re not informed enough to distinguish  between these “self-priming, lifetime warranty paints” available at their local “do-it-yourself-warehouse”and  real paint from a paint-store!

When I first arrived in California with my family in 1984 and started painting Pepperdine University in preparation for the Olympic games that took place at their swimming pool that summer, I remember driving into Santa Monica and sometimes stopping at “Standard Brands” Paints.  They too were the consumer-destination for cheap paints.  They  advertised that their paints had one coat coverage.  Only later did I find-out that there are two basic types of water-based paints.  Vinyl, and Acrylic , so what’s the  difference?

Essentially, Vinyl paints cover a lot better!  Not because they are any better!  On the the contrary.  Vinyl Paints have cheaper components and are cheaper to produce…they also don’t last as long, nor do they clean-up as easy, or are as fade-resistant as the full acrylics with their acrylic polymers.

Those are the paints that tend to stay-on and last and last, but they do cost a lot more to make.  They also go on lighter, and darken as they dry.  The cheaper vinyls go on darker when wet, and then become lighter when drying…kind of freaky to watch when you’re trying to figure-out what you did to your wall!

So how can they afford to advertise all these better one coat coverage, lifetime warranties?   Because when you paint indoors there’s hardly any weather to worry about, so naturally they last, and last, and of course they’ll cover like what they are, cheaper vinyl paints, which do have superior hide, it’s their nature, and only real advantage!

So don’t you get hood-winked by crafty advertising.  Hire an old pro to do your painting, someone that loves what they do, does it well, and has been doing it for a number of years, years where  he’s made all the possible mistakes on other people’s homes, not the one you own!

There is so much to know about paints, and so many new products coming-out constantly.  You want an artist at your door, a master than can beautify your environment, help you choose the right colors, colors  have been a tool for healing for millennia.   Color hss been used to set moods, to soothe, or raise the appetite.  In the human aura, red is associated with anger, in Feng-Shui, it draws-in Chi, conventionally it’s known to increase your appetite and can be added to the dining-room.  There are all kinds of variables to colors, and knowing them is an essential technology for maximizing the effect you intend to produce at your home or business.   You can also set the intention with the addition of essential oils to the paint.  A true Artist knows not just how to get the paint to the wall, but understands that paint is the final stage of beautifying and transforming the home…when the last touch is put on the wall of either a new home, or  a re-model,  it’s always the paint that matters, the touch that makes or breaks all prior efforts to achieve excellence…that 3 little microns, between the wall and the surface, can make or break the look, feel, and value of your home, and is not to be taken lightly or farmed-out to a D.I.Y.!
